Khokhlov Vladimir Antonovich is 80 years old!

On September 3, 2020, Vladimir Antonovich Khokhlovciences Doctor of Sciences in Chemistry, Professor, Principle researcher of the Institute of High Temperature Electrochemistry of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, turns 80.

Vladimir Antonovich was born in the city of Sestroretsk, Leningrad Region. In 1962, he graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Ural State University named after A.M. Gorky and started working at the Institute of Electrochemistry of the UFAN USSR. From1988 to 2015, a follower of professor M.V. Smirnov,  he headed the laboratory of Molten Salts, and from 1996 to 2006 he was the director of the Institute. V.A. Khokhlov formulated and implemented a major scientific program of complex physicochemical studies of ionic melts. He played a significant role in the development of scientific foundations for the use of melts of inorganic substances as electrolytes, regenerative liquids, salt fuels and coolants for new generation nuclear reactors. About 600 scientific papers were published on the basis of research materials, 13 inventions were made. In 1988,he was awarded the title of laureate of the USSR State Prize for his contribution to the development of the science of ionic melts,

Scientific and social activities of V.A. Khokhlov are varied. They include work in the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission on Inorganic Chemistry, the editorial board of the Rasplavy journal , the Joint Scientific Council of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Chemical Sciences, the Scientific Publishing Council of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the dissertation council at the IHTE UB RAS. Vladimir Antonovich is an expert of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Russian Science Foundation, a member of the organizing committees of scientific conferences and schools of various levels. As a professor at the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of UrFU, V.A. Khokhlov is giving students a special course “Electrochemistry of Molten Salts.” For successful industrial and social work he was awarded the Medal “For Labor Merit”.

Scientific authority and erudition, enormous efficiency and responsibility, warmth and dedication to his work have earned Vladimir Antonovich recognition and respect among his colleagues.
