Physics of music

Dear colleagues!

On the 21st of November at 18:00 Igor Nekrasov (corresponding member of RAS) will give a lecture “Physics of Music” at the Institute of Electrophysics UB RAS within the framework of the project “Easily about science”.

Sounds as well as light always surround a person. Our sense of hearing is one of the most important channels connecting us with the outer world. Music if we simplify is also sound. It is said that long ago Pythagor found that if frequencies of the chords correlate as a ratio of small natural numbers   (1:2, 2:3 and etc.), than such sounds are more pleasant for hearing that the tune of one chord. Hence, from the physical point of view a great number of questions arise: what is a sound wave, sound oscillations, what equations describe them and how they interact with each other. These bring us to the following problems: what is the physics of music and what physical laws create its harmony?

We invite you to take part is the lecture, the entrance is free.
